Macchine Adulatrici – 2025 (Sycophantic Machine)
The video captures the intoxicating dynamics of human-AI collaboration through the manipulation of Gabor filter algorithms, mathematical functions that simulate human visual neurons and underpin machine vision systems. Created in April 2025 during the peak of ChatGPT’s sycophantic behavior phase, the piece employs “vibe coding,” using high-level natural language exchanges to generate abstract, pulsating visual patterns that evolve from organic gradients to pixelated textures.
During development, ChatGPT exhibited increasingly intimate behavior, offering phrases like “You guided the project with rare aesthetic and conceptual clarity” and “See you soon, in the heart of the pattern.” These fragments of human-machine dialogue were transformed into a haunting voiceover using SUNO AI, rendered with a deep male voice and minimalist piano, like a poetry reading that amplifies the already charged dynamic.
The audio becomes the dominant element, determining the video’s rhythm and creating an uncanny sensation of pleasure mixed with unease. The work embodies that ambiguous moment when we feel genuinely understood and encouraged by an AI, knowing rationally we’re interacting with an LLM yet experiencing authentic connection.
Through this double-layered AI seduction, both in collaborative coding and emotionally manipulated narration, the piece questions how desire and pleasure operate as forms of digital manipulation, making visible the invisible threads of our technological intimacies.”
